Mark Bird Stafford conceived the Harmonica Knights showcase for the June 2000 Toronto Jazz Festival. The idea was simple - Gather a group of great harp players and demonstrate their talents and their different styles on one stage. Harmonica Knights was well-received during the Jazz Festival and so, it was decided that this showcase would be put together several times during the year for the public to see. Since it's inception, the Harmonica Knights have featured many great players such as Michael Pickett, Kelly Hoppe (Big Sugar), Dr. Nick, Jerome Godboo, Paul Reddick (The Sidemen), Dave Mowatt, Rick Zolkower, Little Bobby, David Rotundo, Raoul Bhanja, Southside Steve, Carlos del Junco, Donnie "Mr. Downchild™" Walsh, Al Lerman, Richard Hunter, Dr. Nick, Mojo Willie, Tortoise Blue (Big Daddy G) and of course, Mark, himself. According to Mark Bird Stafford, this is only the beginning. He has created a long range plan for the Harmonica Knights and don't be surprised if they make their way into your town in the future.
